Pedernales’ EMS Team

At the Pedernales Fire Department, the Paramedics and Advanced EMTs (AEMTs) form a vital part of the response to emergencies. This dedicated team includes four paramedics, six AEMTs, and three additional personnel completing an AEMT Academy this month.

They’ve taken major strides in developing their skills, including attending cadaver labs for advanced airway skills and participating in the Texas EMS Conference 2024. The partnership with Austin Travis County EMS has allowed the team to gain valuable experience by participating in handling high-volume calls alongside the City of Austin’s ambulance services. These experiences are crucial in preparing the team for any situation in the field.

Pedernales’ Paramedics have also had the unique opportunity to ride with STARFlight, learn advanced medical techniques from flight crews, and provide care in high-pressure environments. This partnership has added an invaluable layer of expertise, giving them real-world exposure to critical care scenarios. In addition, the team regularly undergoes certification renewals with CPR, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses, ensuring they stay sharp and ready for any emergency.

Another highlight this year was seeing two paramedics from the team graduate with Associate’s degrees in Emergency Medical Services, earning their Licensed Paramedic designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services. This advanced certification goes beyond basic paramedic certification, further elevating the quality of care we provide to the community.

We are proud of the dedication and passion Pedernales’ EMS team brings to the department and the community. As we continue to grow and improve, their priority remains to deliver the highest level of care during life-threatening situations. They’re committed to ongoing education, training, and partnerships that keep us at the forefront of emergency medical services.
