Calls to the Pedernales Fire Department in 2024
As 2024 came to a close, Pedernales Fire Department marked a busy year with a total of 1,049 emergency responses. From fires to medical emergencies, our crews were ready around the clock, demonstrating their dedication to keeping our community and our neighbors safe.
🔥 Fire Responses
PFD responded to 45 fire-related calls, including:
- 4 working structure fires right here in ESD 8
- 11 structure fire responses as automatic or mutual aid to surrounding districts
A working fire is more than just a small blaze. It’s the type of fire that requires significant resources and effort to extinguish—typically involving visible flames and a high degree of involvement in a structure. For our department, a working fire means all three of our engines are deployed, and mutual aid units from across Travis County join us on scene.
When a structure fire occurs in our district, automatic aid kicks in. This means units from multiple departments respond immediately, following a standard protocol used throughout Travis County:
- 4 fire engines
- 3 ladder trucks or heavy rescues
- 2 Battalion Chiefs
- 1 Water Tender (specific to our area)
In total, about 30 personnel respond to structure fires in our ESD—ensuring a fast, coordinated, and safe response for everyone involved.
🚑 EMS & Other Calls

- 403 “other” calls, which include:

- Alarm activations
- Good intent calls
- False alarms
- Calls cancelled en route
